Make sure thatyour mm7.ini file (in your MM7 install directory) contains the line
PlayMP3=1
AND NOT PlayMP3=0
Worked for me, might work for you. 
This happens especially after applying some mods, because mods were done for the CD version, so they suppose you’re going to play music off the CD, BUT! nowadays most people play the gog version which actually USES MP3s for music, so you need PlayMP3=1 instead of 0.
